Hi, and any 4m activity around London

Postby G7SFA » Thu 24 Feb 2011, 19:42

Just wanted to say Hi, and ask if there's anyone on 4m FM around London.

Just got the Wouxun 4m handie and looking for some activity...

It's on the rather dubious looking supplied rubber duck at the moment, next purchase planned is something more sensible as an aerial :D

Hi!

I'm not far from london, where abouts in london are you?

An handheld alone would not get you out very far on 4m, unless u was high up somewhere, yes the original aerial for that 4m wouxun handheld is crap....

here is a better one for it

the handheld itself is very good :) later on you might invest in a better home base/mobile 4m rig in the near future, plus an 70mhz antenna for the home QTH :)

hope to work you on 4m!

Yes, I'm aware of that aerial, and it's on the purchase list.

So far the handheld is making a very handy little FM radio for such delights as capital fm, but I hope to manage the odd QSO too :)

I'm in Docklands, E14.

I'm planning to both get a decent aerial, and make the odd trip up a few hills like greenwich park (just across the river).

I'm living in a rented place I can't modify, so keeping my eye out for decent low profile / portable aerial options...

Ok you are not far from me :) i live in Chigwell and i'm kinda up on a hill and i can see the Docklands from here so i might be able to pick you up and vice versa :)

There is another amatuer down the road from you who is also on 4m: Derek G6XDN in E16, so you are not alone and i speak to him on 4m from time to time :)

Yeah it's a shame you are in a rented place...but i hope you can sort something out soon :)

Hiya

Im in E1 and, I live on the 6th floor of multi-story building. Interestingly, I started with an Icom E90 on 4m with only a half wave wire antenna matched by a length of 75 ohm coax to the 50 ohm connection. The antenna was just strung up vertically against my balcony. With this basic setup, I can speak with 2E0EKF on 4m and, a host of other people around London. In fact, it was a very useful taster to try the band out so have fun!
