Hi ,I have just completed the simple 4mtr converter that is currently on the web, (it performs really well) I have started to build the full transverter version and would like to use it with my 101ZD but am a novice at homebrew. I would really appreciate any guidance on using these two together, connections, cables and volts/power measurements.

thanks for getting back ,I have not seen the site you mention but the transverter and converter are designed by G3XBM and can be found on his pages. Any information regarding transverters in general or guidance on where to find same on web, articles etc welcome, regards John GW4LPB

Wanna make a nice PCB also, but no time at the very moment and must finish BITX20 firstly (got my cores finally).

yes I will let you know outcome, I am getting some info coming through on using the FT101ZD but there are probably not so many in use now doing this particular job. I made the converter on a pcb but will make the transmit section manhatten style as I find it easier to correct my errors and repositioning of components as I go along. Let me know if you can find a easily available/cheap replacment for the MRF237 as these seem to be expensive now if you can find them.

Yes I was crawling around in chase of MRF237 with no/little luck. But I've a couple of idle BLV80-28 VHF PA specific transistors laying around. It would demand a bit of engineering around PA stage and those transistors are meant to be C class really. It could be nearly as good as shooting flies with a cannon, but I wouldn't be myself if I wouldn't give it a go. Anyways it can end up as an solid exciter, if I'll get SD1127/MRF237 in the future.

I am not sure about the mixer block. I've got one second hand (I could get an SMD new one instead, silly me). But it was cheap and easily available ha ha ha.

For the time begin I stuck with BITX20, short of just one element 33-36V zener diode. And it seem to be much easier to get more "rare" components" than simple semiconductor....

MRF237s are readily available from Ebay. Remember that the good old 2n6080 is the stud mounted equivalent of the MRF237. These are also available on Ebay.
The 2N6081 is also on Ebay, this is quoted as having a gain of 6.3dB.
In practice at low power levels (1 to 2 watts) and at 70 Mhz they have gains of the order of 17 dB.
Failing this you could get your teeth into the RD series of MosFets from Mitsubishi.

Thanks Geoff for this. Good advice with this 2N6080, I think I might have it somewhere in my shack. By the way, what you think of hybrid Mitsubishi PA modules widely used within PMR gear operating on 66-88? I have some "scrapped" rigs with all good innards and of course PA stage with hybrid modules in. Was wondering how bad/good(?) would they preform?
