Bahrain Beacon

Postby A92IO » Thu 8 Dec 2011, 07:52

A Bahrain beacon project is underway, thanks to our OZ friends who are providing a Storno PMR transmitter for this activity. The beacon will be on 70.085 MHz with the identifier A92C/B LL56HE. This is in line with the new 2012 4m band plan. The beacon is scheduled to arrive in Bahrain in early January and it is hoped the antenna and feeder can be installed before the hot weather returns in March. More news will follow when it is up and running. 73s Dave

Bahrain 4m Beacon

Postby A92IO » Sat 11 Feb 2012, 15:40

I'm pleased to report that at 09:00 UTC, 12 February 2012, Bahrain's 4m beacon went live on 70.085 MHz. The details are contained in the 70mhz.org beacon listing. This is what the beacon sounds like at the QTH of A92IO LL56FE about 10 km from the beacon site:

Hi. That's interesting. What mode is being used for this beacon? I suppose that Storno is an ex-pmr and AM mode transceiver? I am quite curious about the hardware itself.
Resistance is futile.

I would expect it to be similar to this one:

Thanks Uffe. I was not sure if ex-PMR based beacon would run some sort of MCW instead of CW mode. Interesting topic how to modify an FM transmitter for a beacon purposes.
Resistance is futile.
