Hi. My name is Charles from The Hague in the Netherlands.

I have a Wouxun single bander handheld KG-699E, but it has a bad audio.
Next year I want to buy a cheap AKD/Garex 4001 or Anytone 5189. Why? The front speaker is very fine. I'm looking for a webstore does this item shipping to the Netherlands. But I buy in the course of the next year.
I live in an apartment with a small balcony. That is awkward for antennas. A mobile whip antenna on the balcony railing an option?

Hi Charles

I recently bought a second-hand KG-699E and had reports of low audio.
I found this simple adjustment which although a bit fiddly, worked very well:

For a fixed rig, you might also consider the Anytone AT-588 which has an basic LCD S-meter, the later model runs up to 50W and is a bit smaller. A shop in Northern Ireland sells them on eBay: item no 331725057941

From my mobile, I worked somebody 150km away using a dipole on his windowsill, so that might be better than a mobile whip.

Good luck

"Cheap" antennas -- Re: new member

Hello Charles!

Welcome to 70 MHz! Depending on your horizons (azimuths) when looking
from the balcony, I can recommend the following inexpensive solution:

For the upcoming NAC/70 next Thursday I am working on the "Monster Gain"
version. Just one element more in addition to the feed, but 4 dB more gain
(theoretically, for the ideal case: there will be lack of aperture for full profit).

The challenge will be the endurance of the operator in possibly freezing WX.

Thanks for your comments.

Regarding the Wouxun handheld, thanks for the link to the mod, but the audio is bad when receiving. Have no comment had on my audio on transmit.
An indoor-dipole for 70MHz? I have the idea that indoor antennas bad function in the 4m band because of the low frequency.
An outdoor antenna works better, I thinks so. My choice is for a mobile whip antenna on the metal balcony railing with the Diamond BK-10 balcony mounting bracket.
Due to limited space it should be small antennas. Yes I now that is to little for a really good 4m antenna.
I must of course take into account my neighbors beside and above me. Larger antennas are, therefore, not possible. :(
