Yeasu FT847.Which Aerial socket for 4m

Postby G0CRB » Wed 19 Mar 2014, 08:39

Hi all just a second clarification before I spend time altering the cabling behind my radio..Yeasu 847 rear aerial sockets HF,2m,6m,70cms, Now that I have installed a new 4m aerial would I be correct in thinking that it would be the 6m coax that I fit a aerial change over switch on so that I can switch between 4m and 6m....The reason I ask is that someone told me to use the HF coax feed and not the 6m coax..I am thinking 6m feed would be the best coax to fit a aerial switch on.

Hi.
4m and 6m use the same socket.
Both 6m and 4m use the HF PA hence the low efficiency on 4m unless you do the mods.
Mods all in the technical page this site,if you did not know.

Thanks for confirming what I thought,Its always good to get a second opinion.Last year I took it down to M/L to get the radio opened up so I could use 5 megs..While there he asked me if I wanted to get the 4m mods carried out at the same time,I said yes do any mods so had it done at the same time..I do have and use a philips 1000 on 4m.I also have 4m on my Icom H/H.. But I love my FT847 and its great to have all the bands up and running. All I have to do now is get my son over to help me remove the mast which holds my 4m end fed vertical so that I can smash the useless thing up and throw in the bin ...Then I can install my home made dipole..lol..

I had it opened up last year so I could tx on 5 megs and top half of 40 meters...Im not to sure what he did for 4m but it was somthing like reducing the amps and increasing wattage output on the (4 meters) and making something safe.Plus another mod not sure about that one..I went down in the morning pre arranged dropped of the 847 went into the town did some shopping and looking about.Went back about a couple of hours later and the 847 was ready paid something like £50 I love my 847 its good to have a radio that works on HF/50 megs/70 megs/ 145 megs/433 megs. And most of in between lol. :D
