IARU 2014 - 70MHz Topics

The 2014 Region-1 Conference will be in Varna-Albena in September

In 2013 the Vienna Interim mtg agreed to delete the Fax designation on 70.3 and also considered (but did not agree) common frequencies for automatic systems such as Internet gateways / Parrots.

Based on either past actions or formal proposals, the items for 70MHz are:-

a) Vienna Action: "Review 70.25 MHz MS calling frequency for next conference"
( haven't seen much said about it, so views are welcome on meteor scatter activity/freqs)

b) Proposal to delete the RTTY designation on 70.3, thus freeing up the channel for general use

c) For Internet gateways / parrots there was discussion after the UBA VIE13_C5_14 Vienna paper around three common freqs within the 70.36-70.41 area, but nothing formally/agreed then. RSGB has suggested 70.3625, 70.3875, 70.4125 if this resurfaces, though there is no new proposal on it.

d) Some footnote/guidance tidying in the IARU-R1 VHF Managers handbook (part of a more general exercise)

e) Creation of a 70MHz IARU Contest (proposed by Veron, possibly for 1st weekend in June)

f) Most recently: The IARU Region-1 70MHz Allocation initiative led by Dave Court EI3IO. This was presented to a Spectrum Workshop meeting at Friedrichshafen in June, and will need a major effort by all Societies (regardless of existing access or not) to gain CEPT WGFMs agreement to upgrade EU9 into an allocation note

Hope that is a helpful summary

Update:-

Papers that deleted the 70.3 RTTY designation and introduced the new IARU-R1 70MHz contest (on the same weekend as 50MHz) were approved.

This is in the main Plenary recommendations that have recently been released (around page-12-15):-
